Overview

Minivan-like passenger adaptations coupled with a pickup truck towing abilities make the 2022 Chevy Tahoe a versatile SUV. These recognitions have earned it the Editors' Choice award. Furthermore, the Tahoe offers an assortment of models including the robust Z71, as well as the more opulent High Country trim. The Tahoe's highly sought-after tech attributes, as well as its surprisingly silent cabin, make it an appealing and attractive choice.

What's Expected for 2022?

The 2022 lineup is decorated with a few tweaks and adjustments by Chevy. Namely, the 420-hp 6.2-litre V-8 is accessible now on the Z71, RST, and Premier models. The all-terrain-oriented Z71 incorporates a computerized limited-slip differential, as well. Each Tahoe with the exception of the base level LS now sports a customizable 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Moreover, the infotainment network on the LT models and up has also been improved with features such as Google's voice assistant, maps, as well as an app store. The Tahoe's formerly small index of conventional driver assists grows with the add-ons of automatic high-beams, lane-keeping assist, front and rear parking sensors, and more. Additionally, you can now access as many as 13 different camera views. GM's Buckle to Drive feature now comes standard and stops out of park shifting unless the operator and front rider (if one is present) are seated and buckled.

Cost and Which Trim to Purchase

The mid-level RST in addition to the Z71 trim retains the most value, with the RST being the more fancy option and the Z71 being marketed toward more adventurous drivers. We like the Z71's conventional four-wheel drive, robust veneer, and exclusive all-terrain equipment as it helps it to stand out. We'd also update from the conventional 5.3-litre V-8 to the now available 6.2-litre V-8, which offers an additional 65 hp and 77 pound-feet of torque. Moreover, our Z71 would also be armed with the Z71 Signature bundle, which provides a myriad of desirable attributes. The high points include:
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Heated steering wheel and second-row seats
  • Memory settings
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Power-folding third row
  • Upgraded towing equipment.
On the lower end of the spectrum, the LS trim starts at an estimated $62,998. And on the upper stratum of the scale, the High Country model starts at an estimated $84,798.

Motor, Performance, and Transmission

The Tahoe is powered by a V-8. That's how it's been in the past and that's how it is now. However, its conventional 355-hp 5.3-litre and accessible 420-hp 6.2-litre blocks are combined by a diesel 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine. Each Tahoe is armed with a 10-speed mechanized transmission and either RWD or AWD. We evaluated the all-terrain-oriented Z71 trim with the conventional V-8, which also offers a two-speed transfer case that supplies customary four-wheel drive, 20-inch wheels enveloped with off-road tires, and underbody defense. This example had sufficient acceleration, a strong brake pedal, and a surprisingly silent cabin at highway speeds. The Z71 bundle also offers air springs and adaptive dampers that come standard on the upper-end Premier and High Country trims.

Interior, Cargo, and Comfort

This most recent generation of the Tahoe boasts its largest interior to date. Its previously restricted third row offers an additional 10 inches of leg space, and the second-row seats slide forward and backward to offer some much-needed flexibility. Adults now have the luxury of sitting comfortably in the far rear. Moreover, the Tahoe's inside packaging also offers a flatter load floor due to its individualistic rear suspension; the cargo space (with both the second and third rows folded) expands to 123 cubic feet.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Mollified passengers equal calm road trips, and Tahoe's powerful infotainment and connectivity attributes assist with this happening. Each trim is equipped with a 10.2-inch touchscreen that offers Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, as well as a Wi-Fi hotspot. Furthermore, its plethora of inside charging ports makes the three-row Chevy a robust Bose audio network.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Attributes

The Chevy provides many high-tech hauling assists as well as its loaded roster of conventional driver-assistance technology. Key safety attributes include:
  • Standard forward-collision alert and automated emergency braking
  • Standard lane-departure alert and lane-keeping assist
  • Available blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic warning

Maintenance and Warranty Coverage

Chevy's limited and powertrain warranty offers a moderate value relative to other SUVs in its category.
  • The limited warranty covers up to 60,000 km (3 years)
  • Powertrain warranty covers up to 100,000 km (5 years)
  • Complimentary maintenance on the first visit is covered
