Review

Few things can haul both cargo and people as smoothly as the 2022 Yukon as well as the long-wheelbase Yukon XL. Close relatives to both the Suburban SUVs and the Chevy Tahoe, the lineup for the Yukon comes with either a 5.3- or 6.2-liter gasoline-powered V-8 engine or a turbo-diesel 3.0-litre inline-six. However, regardless of the engine underneath the hood, the Yukon offers a robust hauling capacity as well as a sophisticated on-road appearance. With a commodious cabin in all three rows, the Yukon comes in a myriad of models that increase in opulence as you make your way from the base SLE to the premium Denali model.

What's Expected for 2022?

Even though it was completely brand-new as little as a year ago, the Yukon has incorporated a tech enhancement for 2022 that offers a new customary 12.0-inch virtual gauge display in addition to an infotainment interface that was produced in association with Google. On the technical front, the 6.2-litre V-8 is now accessible on the AT4 model and can be armed with a dual exhaust network. The second to none Denali now supplies the formerly discretionary power-sliding center console as stock equipment.

Cost and Which Trim to Purchase

While the rumpus AT4 trim--with its rugged veneer and all-terrain hardware--as well as the opulent Denali--with its handcrafted leather upholstery--appear the most alluring, the one to consider is the fully equipped and more cost-effective SLT model. This mid-range trim is brimming with features that the majority of consumers are vying for. Some of these features include refined leather upholstery, 20-inch wheels, fully ventilated and heated front seats, and more. As it pertains to price, the base level SLE trim comes in at $64,898. And on the more luxurious side, the Denali starts at a respectable $83,198

Engine, Performance, and Transmission

Like the previous generation Yukon, two V-8 engines are supplied: a 355-horsepower 5.3-litre and a 420-horsepower 6.2-litre. GMC also provides a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel inline-six that offers a colossal 460 pound-feet of torque and should be the primary option for consumers who plan on hauling large and heavy materials. All trims deliver a 10-speed automatic transmission that's controlled with a push-button console on the dashboard and will provide either rear- or AWD. An all-terrain-oriented AT4 trim is also accessible and offers a two-speed transfer case, underbody skid plates, 20-inch wheels with off-road tires, as well as a discretionary air suspension system able to provide up to two additional inches of ground clearance.

Real-World MPG and Fuel Economy

Yukons armed with the more compact 5.3-litre V-8 are incredibly efficient gasoline-powered trims and have garnered ratings of en estimated City/Hwy ratings of 16L and 11.9L per 100km, respectively. The 6.2L V8 engine is rated at 17L/100km city and 12.7L/100km away.

Interior, Cargo, and Comfort

Accessible in a plethora of styles--from the base SLE trim to the opulent Denali model--the Yukon provides spacious seating for up to eight passengers. However, ordering the in-demand second-row chairs will reduce the seating space to seven. Denali trims provide a distinct interior composition with a lumber-trimmed dashboard as well as handcrafted leather cushioning. A new power-sliding center console is accessible with the SLT and AT4 trims (it comes as stock equipment in the Denali). It permits the driver to maneuver the center panel backward and forward over a 10-inch container that provides space for bigger first-row possessions like bags, backpacks, or other miscellaneous belongings. Cargo space is commodious, particularly in the bigger XL trim, which provides a staggering 145 cubic feet of maximal cargo room with its seats stored. The conventional-length Yukon offered enough room for 6 carry-on suitcases in the back of its third-row seats. When we packed the third and second rows, we managed 35.

Infotainment and Connectedness

Every Yukon trim comes with a sizable infotainment screen with GMC's newest infotainment network. Moreover, the system is easy and effortless to navigate. The SLE, SLT, and AT4 trims offer a display that stretches high in the center dashboard. However, the Denali's is encircled by shiny chrome and is enmeshed in the dashboard; offering a much more refined appearance. Furthermore, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are both integrated, and the Wi-Fi hotspot also comes as stock equipment as well. Discretionary features include navigation as well as a Bose audio network.
