Competition in the full-size pickup truck market is intense, especially between two leading contenders: the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and the Ford F-150. If you’ve been in the market for a truck, chances are you’ve been comparing these two vehicles. In this article, we’re aiming to make that choice easier with a comprehensive comparison of the 2024 Silverado 1500 and the F-150.

What’s Under the Hood?

The 2024 Ford F-150 features a range of engine selections, all of which include Ford’s EcoBoost technology. Its entry-level engine is a 2.7-litre, V-6 turbo that delivers 325 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque.

In contrast, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 features four engine options across various trim levels:

  • 2.7-litre four-cylinder turbo engine with 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque
  • 5.3-litre V-8 engine with 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque
  • 6.2-litre V-8 engine with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque
  • 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo diesel engine with 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque

While the four-cylinder engine boasts an eight-speed automatic transmission, all other options come with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Prioritizing Safety

When it comes to safety, Chevrolet and Ford both take it seriously. Standard safety features in the Silverado 1500 include pre-collision assist, post-collision braking, and lane departure warning. The Ford F-150 comes equipped with a similar set of safety features.

Higher trim levels on both models offer additional safety features, including lane-keep assist and evasive steering. Most notably, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country trim comes with the Super Cruise hands-free system, using cameras and sensors for a safer hands-free driving experience.

Comparing Cargo and Comfort

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and the Ford F-150 are both offered in three different cab sizes and bed lengths. While Chevrolet offers bed options of 5.7-foot, 6.5-foot, and 8-foot bed options, Ford offers 5.5-foot, 6.5-foot, and 8.5-foot options.

Inside, both trucks can seat five to six passengers, depending on the chosen cab size. The F-150’s lower trim levels feature cloth upholstery, while the Lariat and higher trims offer leather-trimmed upholstery. The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 comes with leather, vinyl, or cloth options, with vinyl coming standard on the base model.

Technology-wise, the Silverado’s lower trims include a 3.5-inch driver information display and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display. Higher trims are upgraded to a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a 13.4-inch touchscreen. The Ford F-150 offers a 12-inch digital instrument display on all trims. Both trucks offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration.

Which is Better: the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or the Ford F-150?

Considering everything from customization and options to the extensive safety features such as the innovative Super Cruise hands-free system, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 emerges as the top choice in the full-size pickup truck market.
