2024 GMC Sierra HD

In the past, heavy-duty trucks could lack when it comes to safety and other features that come standard in most trucks. c The full trim line of the 2024 Sierra HD is decked out with all the bells and whistles from updated styling cues with reshaped front bumpers, new grille designs, unique interiors, and mechanical upgrades.

From the new 2024 GMC Sierra HD to the newly released Denali Ultimate trim, the 2024 Sierra trims have everything a potential buyer could want. We here at Ron Hodgson Buick GMC have put together this guide to better understand the new safety features.

What’s New With the 2024 GMC Sierra HD?

The 2024 GMC Sierra HD has undergone several upgrades, both cosmetically and mechanically. The 2024 Sierra HD features a new front bumper and a grill design. Depending on which trim level you choose, each features a different design. The new Sierras will also have a new light sequence for when you approach, start, and leave the vehicle. If you opt for one of the Denalis, SLEs, or AT4s, you’ll notice that the wheels have also had a design change.

But that’s still not all. The 2024 Sierra HD lineup is available in six new colours, and if you select the top-of-line trims like the Denali or Denali Ultimate, you will also have the option of new rear wheelhouse liners if you choose dual rear wheels.

What’s Under the Hood of the 2024 GMC Sierra HD

One of the most prominent changes to the 2024 GMC Sierra HD is the standard 6.6-litre gas-powered V8, which now has a 10-speed Allison automatic transmission. This new 10-speed transmission has smaller “steps” in between gear changes, allowing for more efficient use of the 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque under the hood.

But for those interested in the diesel option, the optional 6.6-litre Duramax turbo-diesel V8 gets equipped with the same 10-speed transmission. The diesel GMC options come with 470 horsepower and an impressive 975 lb-ft of torque. According to GMC, the diesel truck offers 25 percent more low-end torque to enhance performance in towing and hauling prowess.

Premium Features of the 2024 GMC Sierra HD

2024 GMC Sierra HD features

Aside from all the cosmetic and mechanical upgrades, one featured component of the new 2024 Sierra HD line is the enhancements to the safety features. The 2023 Sierra HD comes standard with GMC Pro Safety and a full suite of advanced driver assistance features.

The Most Advanced Trailering Assistance Technologies

Without a doubt, one of the peak safety features of the 2024 GMC Sierra HD is the ProGrade Trailering System. There are more capabilities than ever with advanced options allowing drivers to haul, tow, or hitch more confidently, safely, and with improved visibility.

The ProGrade Trailering System includes a suite of intelligent trailering assistance technologies that streamline the hitching and towing process. These integrated tools are offered in the heavy-duty truck line and include the following enhancements.

Transparent Trailer View: This industry-first allows drivers to “virtually” see-through the trailer. Using a rear-mounted camera at the rear of the truck and another accessory camera on the back of the trailer combines the area view behind the truck and trailer as if the trailer was not there. This improved visibility enhancement is compatible with goose-neck and fifth-wheel trailers.

Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert: Blind zones are minimized as this feature extends the blind zone areas around the trailer and will let you know if there is an obstacle you cannot see.

New Gross Combined Weight Rating Alert: If you’ve ever questioned the weight of your vehicle and trailer, this new alert system will tell you if your trailer exceeds the vehicle’s GCW rating.

Available Adaptive Cruise Control with Trailering: The 2024 GMC Sierra HD’s Adaptive Cruise Control has been enhanced for trailering. The new system can now account for additional drag and increase the braking distance when towing a trailer.

But it doesn’t stop there. The 2024 Sierra Heavy Duty offers up to 14 available camera views, including:

  • Hitch Guidance with Hitch View: Provides a close-up view of the receiver hitch to help with alignment when connecting to a trailer.
  • Bed View with Zoom and Bed Hitch Guidance: Allows you to see the cargo bed to help with fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitching or to check on cargo briefly.
  • Rear Side View with Trailer Length Indicator:  When connected with a compatible trailer, when you activate your turn signal, this view will show a full-screen down the turning side of the trailer along with a Trailer Length indicator to help you change lanes.

Automatic Emergency Braking

The forward collision alert system is among the new enhancements of the 2024 Sierra HD that has many drivers excited. If an obstacle in front of your truck is not in your view, the forward collision system can alert you to let you know. This system also includes an automatic emergency braking feature that can bring the whole vehicle to a complete stop if you can’t hit the brakes in time.

Following Distance Indicator

One pain point that heavy-duty trucks can have is maintaining adequate space between your vehicle and others. But with the 2024 GMC Sierra HD, they’ve accounted for this, especially with a truck of this size. The following distance indicator will help you ensure enough space between you and the vehicle in front of you.

IntelliBeam Auto High Beams

A great solution for drivers who forget to turn their high beams off for other drives that GMC implemented in the 2024 Sierra HD trucks is the IntelliBeam Auto High Beams. This feature is intelligent enough to turn on when the road in front of you is clear, but when it detects a vehicle approaching, the high beams will automatically turn off to prevent blinding the other driver. The IntelliBeam feature is regarded as one of the most important safety upgrades implemented in the 2024 GMC Sierra HD.
